Livelihood Intervention in Purba Medinipur through Afforestation Programme
Forest Directorate will launch its afforestation programme in Purba Medinipur to stem coastal erosion. The afforestation programme will involve communities who are more dependent on the mangroves, like the livestock owners and fisherman. A site-specific strategy will be designed and implemented.
Capacity building of the CBOs and their organizational management will be done so that they can manage and maintain the assets generated through these programme activities. Several Entry Point activities such as construction of rural road, animal rescue center, patrolling camp, facilitation of drinking water supply by erecting of tube wells and pump machines etc. will be done to instill confidence among the local populace about the efficacy of this ICZM Project. A Programme Coordination Committee will be formed consisting of members from Forest Directorate, Forest Protection Committee (FPC), Gram Panchayat and etc. It will look after the progress of the Programme implementation and will hold quarterly meeting to review the Progress. FPC will be consisted mainly from the members of the local coastal community. FPC will be the CBO over here that will be entrusted to execute the plantation programmes under ICZM Project.
